Why do I have 1 post karma?

Karmas are gained when your comments and posts links get upvoted , but as soon as your comments and links get downvoted karmas also decreases. You get karma by "being in the right place at the right time" with comments or submissions. Partially it's submitting good content, and partially it's just about timing.
