The installation of the fusion device, which was developed by Chinese scientists and described as ‘artificial sun ada in the world, was completed. The reactor, called HL-2M, is important in terms of providing a cleaner and cheaper energy source.
China has completed the study of artificial solar
HL-2M, developed in China and called as artificial sun, stands out with its temperature reaching 200 million degrees Celsius. Let us also note that the temperature reached by the sun is about 15 million degrees Celsius. In other words, artificial sun can reach 13 times the temperature of the sun.
HL-2M is China's second fusion project. The first is the Experimental Advanced Superconductor Tokamak (EAST) in Hefei, which has reached 100 million degrees last year.
The reason that the reactor is so hot is that it works with a system different from the fusion process in the sun. The fusion process in the sun is based on the forced coalescence of atoms, which releases heat that can be converted into energy. The HL-2M is based on the separation of atoms in uranium and is the opposite of the sun. Scientists say this method is cleaner and cheaper than the existing nuclear options that result in less toxic waste. The installation, which started in June and ended on Tuesday, uses hydrogen and deuterium gas as fuel.
This project is part of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in France, including China. ITER is the world's largest nuclear fusion project with a price tag of around 20 billion euros. The project, including 35 countries, is expected to be completed in 2025.
